Global Leadership Academy Charter School’s wellness program, Get Healthy GLA!, has incrementally and successfully created a healthy school environment, and we have been recognized as one of the healthiest places to work in the Greater Philadelphia area by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
On June 4, GLA will join all of the 2015 winners at a special event sponsored by United Healthcare; to celebrate health in the workplace, and will join other top ranking companies in the area. GLA is the only public (K-12) school to make the list this year. Award winners will also be profiled in a special PBJ supplement slated to print on June 5.

GLA is a high-performing public charter school in West Philadelphia with a student body that is nearly 100 percent African American. In response to epidemic rates of childhood obesity and related diseases in communities of color, GLA began implementing school-wide interventions to increase access to healthier foods, reduce access to junk foods and provide more opportunities for physical activity several years ago. At the helm of this commitment to wellness is CEO Dr. Naomi Johnson Booker, who came back from a life-threatening aneurysm in 2009 with a deeper understanding of the importance of good health and its essential role in the high-level performance of GLA’s scholars and staff.
